Dit omdat het een spel is met veel nieuwe ideeën en techniek.
Tot nu toe lijkt er nog geen vertraging in te zitten ondanks alle corona perikelen.

Global issues with local implications

To all of our backers and supporters, we hope you and yours are safe and well during these troubling times across the globe. Currently, we are all deep in the COVID-19 pandemic and we hope all of you are doing as best as can be expected. As for us, as we have mentioned on social media we have made changes and preparations and have been working separately from our homes for several weeks. Thankfully we are still at a point in our development process that allows this workflow to be easy and non-disruptive to the progress of the game.

We still haven’t expected any significant delays or inconveniences in our production pipeline due to where we sit on a timeline, we did want to make you aware of what stages we are currently at and how those are progressing so far. We also wanted to touch base with you to share information about the development of Exogen, late pledges, and a few photos to look behind the scenes.

Production pipeline

As of now, we are moving on to a very critical piece that affects our timeline heavily, mold making. One of the most labor-intensive parts of our process, as well as one of the most complex, also happens to be the one that is required to be finished before much of the rest of the game can be assembled. So where do we stand? Currently, we are a little ahead of the curve. 

Compared to our original plan, we would possibly be two weeks behind, but there has been a significant change in our approach. Originally we were going to deliver our CAD models for the mold makers for them to create the blueprints and scripts for the CNC machines to cut the molds. However, Lucas, one of our lead engineers, is well skilled in Solidworks, so he has been creating the CNC scripts and blueprints for the mold makers. Though they will still need to run a compliance and collision check, this significantly cuts down the total timeline. If left up entirely to the mold makers, we would be looking at a four-week process upon delivery. With our Solidworks project completed, we should see a turnaround around one week. 

We have been very excited to get to this point and take lots of photos to bombard you all with, but we are finally starting to run into some issues that the global pandemic is affecting with our plans. Currently the mold makers still have a capacity to work, though in reduced numbers, but it seems our personal access to the facilities may be extremely if not completely limited. So we are hoping to build good relationships so we can encourage them to send all of us progress photos from raw stock, to finished molds.

Exogen 

Most of you have seen us discuss (and some have even played) an additional game that we are bringing to all of you for free, Exogen. As overly excited as our lead game developers are, they literally couldn’t wait to begin getting people involved in the Beyond Humanity universe! We discussed the online metagame aspects during the campaign, but has become much more fleshed out and realized as its own standalone game, quite different from BH:C, though deeply connected. 

To share the most exciting news first, we are extremely close to the beta launch! We have been cleaning up the code and polishing the GUI, as well as implementing some astoundingly fantastic suggestions from our alpha user base! As many of us are now stuck at home, some of us with far more free time on our hands than we would like, we hope that giving you a fun and exciting near real time space exploration simulator will be a very welcome treat! We have to say, the responses were extremely enthusiastic and we think you will have an extremely enjoyable time playing this game as it looks and feels more awesome every day!

Hopefully you have caught some of our explanations so far on social media, other newsletters, and updates. But if you’re still feeling a little lost, not to worry. We will soon be launching some introductory videos to help give you a better understanding of what the system is and how it works. We are extremely excited to play this along with you guys as we all wait together for the delivery of the final game!
 

Pledge manager and late pledges

Most important to note, roughly a third of our backers have not finished their pledge managers and pledge manager companions! Please be sure to log in and take care of that as soon as possible. You still have until the end of the month (April 2020) to submit the delivery data and choose your language version of the game. We want to make sure everybody has their name in the system, their avatars chosen, and has had an opportunity to submit colony name proposals.

Although it seems a little shortsighted at first, we did want to remind everybody that we currently have a late pledge option open through GameOn until the end of April. We know that many of us (us included!) have financially suffered significantly during this time. But we know that like all things, this too will pass. So if you are aware of anybody who found out about this game too late and would want to be a part of this unifying and exciting experience, there is still an opportunity to join as a backer.

Parting thoughts

As we hope you’ve seen by now, we are endlessly excited about continuing to introduce you to the world of Beyond Humanity! So, behind the scenes we have been working on an exciting project we call, Chapter 1. Our plans for the connected universe of the many games we wish to make extends much deeper than just the top of your game table. That enthusiasm constantly keeps us excited to begin introducing you to the characters and concepts which will help you slowly connect the dots of the much deeper story and themes in this expansive universe.

In Chapter 1, we are going to once again place you in our near future (or the distant past in-game), and show you how humanity was pulled back from the brink of destruction, and pushed to the edge of space. From 2024 to 2060, you’ll begin to learn what led to mankind‘s ability to traverse space like we now traversed the oceans. But this story is just the beginning. You will learn about the past, you must become part of the future! One of the most exciting aspects of being able to publish the games we always dreamed of is being able to involve you in the ongoing creation of the lore and story behind the scenes of these games!

Ben benieuwd of ze het gaat lukken we gaan het zien... September zou fijn zijn.
Dan is hij zelfs eerder als Street Fighter... 😉
